The Newport Tower
The Newport Tower is a conversion of a grande Victorian mansion into 8 one-bedroom units. The name is a reference to a similar historical building in Newport, Rhode Island. Lock 7 purchased the building from the previous owner, who had used the house sparingly for short business trips when he was in DC. The house has a rich history- it was once the site of Pollard's Wood and Coal, one of the first lumber yards in the city. In 1895, when the house was originally built, it was used as a doctor's office. Amazingly, most of the historical features remain intact and will be refurbished and re-used in the new condominiums. These features include the heart pine floors, original fireplace mantels, original stained glass and wood trim.
